New partnership: Carbon Future & Bioenergie Frauenfeld
May 16, 2022
Carbonfuture and Bioenergie Frauenfeld will provide a total of 17,500 tons of CDRs by 2024.
Scalable and sustainable carbon removal is of utmost importance in order to limit global warming. Effective measures in this area are only possible through comprehensive and in-depth cooperation. That is why Bioenergie Frauenfeld and Carbonfuture are joining forces to enable effective and trustworthy carbon removal on a gigaton scale.
The signing of a multi-year purchase agreement with Bioenergie Frauenfeld, owner of the world's largest SYNCRAFT reverse power plant, represents another milestone. The goal is to offer net-zero companies worldwide a scalable and scientifically sound approach to emission credits.
In 2021, Bioenergie Frauenfeld built the world's largest Reversepowerplant in Frauenfeld, where biomass in the form of regional waste wood is converted into green coal through pyrolysis. Eight lines are operated in parallel to achieve an output of around 3,500 tons of green coal in the first year. The resulting synthesis gas can then be converted into electricity, which covers the annual needs of around 8,000 households. The heat generated during the pyrolysis process is supplied as renewable energy to the "Schweizer Zucker" sugar factory and to a connected district heating network. The green coal is used for various carbon-saving applications in agriculture and construction.
In collaboration with Bioenergie Frauenfeld, Carbonfuture will utilize its unique digital tracking system, which forms the basis for issuing trustworthy CO₂ certificates. It enables the clear identification and tracking of the carbon-conserving application behind each reduction credit.
